Spanking Amongst Different Cultures

It has never ceased to amaze me just how much The United States and Great Britain dominate the amount of visitors that I get on this site. Actually it covers all sites that I operate but to save boring you with mega stats I will keep it to just this site.

Why do you guys suppose that spanking is so heavily popular in these two geographic locations? If you look at the graph below (click the pic to see the data), which are the details of the last year’s worth of statistics from this very site, you will see that the United States and Great Britain account for 66% of all total visitors, even though I had visitors from 159 countries in the last year. On top of that, based on the population of the respective countries, there are actually more persons per capita that come from Great Britain.

This is one area of our lifestyle that has always confused me because spanking isn’t restricted to only people from these countries. Pixie recently asked about whether your background played a role in developing your desire for spanking, cultural or otherwise, and there were different responses from many different countries. In my own personal experience it has not been unusual to hear tales from the Latino or African American/Caribbean communities about their growing up in strict environments that of course included spankings of varying degree. Yet I personally find both of these cultures severely underrepresented in the spanking community. Do you guys have any idea why that may be?

Of course I have some opinions about this myself, but I would rather open it up to see if anyone is interested in sharing their opinion. Just do me a favor and don’t state the obvious that there ARE people from different cultures who participate in our lifestyle, I’m quite aware of that, in fact I have played with girls from a great many different cultural backgrounds, I am talking here about the overall general lack of diversity based on percentages of population.

The Latino community is the one that perplexes me the most, I live in New York City which has a large Latino community, and yet I come across very few spankos from the Latino community. From conversations that I have heard first hand and in popular culture, spanking isn’t uncommon in the Latino community, two examples of which are very clear to me.

The first of these is the lady who lives on the top floor of the three family home that I live in. During a casual conversation one day she matter of factly told me that she spanks her daughters, even going so far as to tell me that getting spanked was part of her own growing up as well. She was very open in her feelings regarding old fashioned methods compared to current day feelings. Yeah, it was a pretty good conversation being that she had no idea who she was talking to, lol. The other instance was with a young coworker who was a Latina, who once made the comment, and I quote “I can be such a bad girl…… maybe that is why my Mum and my boyfriend still spank me” which was followed by a fit of laughter. Of course to me I actually focused on the one word, they STILL spank her, which of course meant that spankings were not an unusual event for her either.

So does anyone have their own views as to why spanking is so heavily dominated amongst American and British cultures?

  1. Well the Brits and the Americans were and are heavily into world domination — in the geopolitical sense — so really is it a surprise that they’re into domination and submission in the boudoir as well?

It would be interesting to know how the Russians and the Israelis rank, if you adjust for population. I note that they don’t seem to show up on your chart.

Of course, in sources of blog material, France seems to be a major contributor to the internet spanking scene with at least three or four good blogs, whereas I for one am less aware of any significant German contributors to the online scene. But then, maybe I just haven’t been looking hard enough.

If you count population as a factor, Canada is right up there with the U.S., having about 10% of the U.S. population.

Of course, considering the U.K. population is only 61 Milllion vs 303 Million in the U.S., Britain is clearly tops by far.

Of course there’s the fact that this blog is English speaking that limits the significance of the readership sampling.

Then, could it be the Latinos are more into doing it and not so much into thinking about it, reading about it, and watching videos and pictures about it. Or maybe their video culture already includes more overt spanking in soap operas and such and they don’t need to go off the beaten path looking for more obscure source on the net for instance. Or it could be that their socio-economic status does not accommodate the leisure required to browse the net for such non-survival-related interests as spanking.

  2. I agree, I think that countries which are developing would not have access to the internet like say the UK, US and other European nations.

  3. I THINK ECONOMICS PLAYS A HUGE PART IN THIS, AS WELL ARE CULTURAL DIVERSITY. THE LATINAMERICAN COUNTRIES [oops caps lock on] have less of a middle class than most developed countries. the rich and ultra rich have better things to do than surf spanking web sites. the dirt poor have neither computers or language skills or time for this.

i would say that spanking is a universal human phenomenon except it isn’t. it is unknown in very primitive cultures[ african/australian bushmen, south sea ilslanders, escimos]. of course as civilation[?] encroches things change.

there are so many factors to consider. disclipine vs. erotic, i still have problems with knowing that girls go to spanking get-to-gethers just to be spanked and afection is a no-no.

i won’t see it but someday soon someone will earn their doctorate wiith a paper on spanking.

    i can’t sit down,

  4. I think part of it may be that some other cultures may be more close-mouthed about their sexuality in general. So there may actually be more spankos than we know of in these cultures. For one thing, for all we know, within certain cultures individuals may not feel comfortable even disclosing their desires to a partner, they may see it as something frowned upon. And then even when they do…..they may not be as open to “coming out” to groups of people, even with the same interests.

Also access, interest in, and utilization of the internet can be factored in. Though use is growing everywhere, in general many from other cultures and/or socio-economic backgrounds just have not had the access that many of us have.

  5. It’s also notable that New Zealand ranks so high, for having a miniscule population. T’is the British influence, I say.

Australia’s right up there as well.

  6. For about twelve (12) years I operated a mail-order business in which I sold videotapes containing good spanking scenes from mainstream movies and TV shows. It was called “Cinema Swats.”

My point is that, in searching high and low for the best spank scenes from mainstream, I came across films from many, many countries, including some that are NOT mentioned in your post. Except for the USA and England, I think Germany had/has the most spank scenes; the middle eastern countries also have many — think of the great “Postriziny” and “Honza Malem Kralem” from Czechoslovakia — and so do the Scandinavian countries.

Mexico was once very, very high on the spanko list, but for some reason Mexico has become more p.c. in its movies nowadays. But another Latin American country, Brazil, is now releasing some of the best spankings of the 21st century. Consider “Alma Gemea,” “Pecatos Venenos,” “Perola Negra,” and the immortal “Lacos da Familia.”

    Cheers,
    Dan

  7. Yes Richard, Spankings are popular all around the world. But if there is one country were it dominates, it’s ‘Merrie Olde England’. Known the world over as the ‘English Vice’, thats where I learn’t to love this beautiful ‘vice’. Growing up as a student there, I wanted to spank one of my teacher’s’. I wanted to bend her over her desk, take down her knickers, and cane her. ‘six of the best’, I wanted to give her. ‘six of the very best’, upon her bare bottom. Thats also how I got my ‘nome de plume’. Till this very day, which is over 60 years ago, I still dream, spank, look at photo’s of naughty woman having their luscious bare bottoms warmed, by a good spanking on their bare bottoms.

  8. I agree with Karl. Poplation needs to be factored in–next to this list, we should have the stats of how many people are in that county. The Isle of Man, for example, has only 62252 inhabitants that are over 18 years of age…. So, it being number 32 on the list is pretty extrodinary since the population is so small. 452 is a pretty big percentage to have visited your sites alone, let alone any other spanking sites that are out there, which is probably a much larger percentage.

Same goes to New Zealand. The country only has barely over 4 million folk. And yet, over 2000 have visisted your site in any length of time?

Anyway, just to be fair, I wish we could make out percentages. 🙂 See who’s REALLY the top-spanking country!

  9. Richard interesting post ,good for the young girls mother admitting that she spanks them when needed no doubt they are well balanced young daughters and respect her and their elders and the other girl a Latino who is spanked also ,bestwishes ,tim .

  10. I’ve seen this question pop up at different times in other places. One thing I notice is that, in general, we Westerners tend to think we are the center of the Universe and that those who are not where we are simply do not exist in that light.

From a simple standpoint of other cultures, there is a huge language barrier in many cases. We may not see many Asians, for instance, on these English-speaking sites because they are on their own native language sites, entering “spanking” in their respective language into search engines and not coming up with the English sites when they search. Hell, they might be wondering where all the English and Americans are and “is it just an Asian thing?” type questions being pondered on their board or blog!

In regards to many other countries, turbulent governments and very low socio-economic factors come into play, I believe, such as in Latin America, South America and many African nations. In certain third world countries, the infrastructure and economy does not allow for computers for average personal use. In many countries with communist/dictator/religious rule type of governments, on the rare instance that some citizen may indeed have a computer for personal use, no doubt there are restrictions in place on what can be accessed.

I do believe that, on the world wide web, nearly all westernized cultures are represented through blogs and websites such as these. People just tend to flock to their own language or cultural group, even when they speak other languages.

There is, I believe, a cultural difference as well involved here in how certain groups network. There may also be an educational level barrier as well, as statistically speaking, developed countries tend to finish education at a much higher level. The combination of it being vastly unappealing to sit on the computer (provided they’re available due to economic or personal conditions)writing about this kink, when one may have a below par educational level, the socio-economic status one tends to find themselves in when there is lack of education and writing/reasoning abilities, and the fact that the cultures themselves are different probably explains that lack of certain ethnicities on spanking sites.

I have noticed that there tends to be less percentage of low socio-economic Caucasians/Europeans on many boards/blogs too. The fact that there are less lends me to believe that socio-economic status and educational level have much to do with the participation in the online community as a whole, especially in the way that many of us are used to it.

I do not think that non-Americans/Europeans are any less likely to have the same kink. I simply think their venue of majority expression, due to whatever circumstances, may possibly be different.

  11. I’m a latino and I can say I love spanking and man other forms of kink. While I have seen more latinas come out into the spannking community especially as dominatrixes you are right. there aren’t that many of us out there. i find that disappointing since latinas have the most spankable bottoms.
