Spanks For Pranks:
Chapter 1: A Memory
One day, whilst out shopping in the town, some memories came flooding back to Linda. These memories had been rekindled in a novelty store when she had stumbled across something that she had once owned. It was an item that had brought her untold joy and amusement all those years ago, even if that joy and amusement had come from the reactions of her victims.
What was this item that she had found?
The item in question was a fake rat. It was one of those rubbery things that, at first glance, would send a chill down anyone’s spine. Perhaps on the surface, when seen close up, it might not have appeared to be real. However, when placed in a nook or cranny somewhere, with only the head or tail peeking out, the fake rat was as real as the day was long. Certainly to the person who would discover it as their minds played tricks on them.
At home it had been confiscated more times than she would care to admit, and when she played that prank on the neighbors, they would often laugh, at least externally. Internally, however, they each had their own thoughts as to what should happen to that bratty neighbor of theirs.
None of this compared to summer camp, though. Inevitably her fake rats would be confiscated during the summer, which is why she would always take three or four of them to camp with her. Linda could normally get a good week out of a fake rat before it was confiscated, normally because she would ‘rescue’ it before the maintenance crew arrived to do a sweep of the cabin. Even better for her, nobody ever knew that she was the person who conducted this annual activity.
There was always this thrill of doing something so deliciously naughty and mischievous, and even on the rare occasions when she was caught out, all she had to do was listen to the riot act being read to her. Nothing of note ever happened, save perhaps for her reputation as a troublemaker being enhanced. As Linda held the fake rat in the store, knowing that she was definitely going to purchase it, another memory quickly came back to her.
There was this one time, many years ago, when Linda was helping out her neighbor, Mrs. Wilson. It was only a small job where she could earn a few dollars, and all it entailed was cleaning out the shed in the garden and moving some of the items from the basement into said shed. It was an opportunity that simply couldn’t be passed up.
As Mrs. Wilson made a trip to the open basement, Linda took the fake rat from her pocket and placed it right behind the shovel in the shed. Of course, she didn’t place the entire thing behind the shovel; she only put the head behind the shovel and left the back end, including the long tail, sticking out in the open.
Even to this day, ten years later, she could still hear the shrieks from Mrs. Wilson as she came running out of the shed just a few seconds after entering it. However, things were different this time around. Normally, whenever she would play one of her pranks, the initial shock would soon be followed by laughter, even if the victim didn’t find it particularly funny.
Not so in Mrs. Wilson’s case, though. For her, the event had been particularly traumatic, and even when Linda retrieved the fake rat to show her that it had all been a joke, her explanation had fallen on deaf ears. She was banished from the house almost immediately by the shaking woman, and she left without so much as a dime in her pocket for the work that she had done that day.
It was a reaction that Linda had encountered many times before, but in almost every incident previously, even if it took a little time, people would eventually see the funny side of it. Linda even trudged off on that particular day lamenting how much of a drama queen Mrs. Wilson was being.
Even though Linda had felt that Mrs. Wilson had been overly dramatic, it did gnaw at her a bit. The older woman had been so shaken that she had even cried, and there was a little twang of guilt in the younger woman. Based upon past experiences, though, she would put on her manipulative hat the following day and pay a visit to Mrs. Wilson, with the intention of using her natural charm to play the role of an innocent prankster. It had worked many times before, so why wouldn’t it work again?
Unfortunately for Linda, her pre-planned routine didn’t work out as well as she had planned the following day, and even though she had been shocked by the words that were said to her that day, the memory of them was so strong that she still remembered them ten years later.
She had rung the doorbell of her neighbor, and she was standing there as innocently as an angel when her life changed a little bit. It wasn’t Mrs. Wilson who answered the doorbell; instead, it was the rather gruff-looking Mr. Wilson who answered it.
Initially, Mr. Wilson didn’t say much, though perhaps the angry look on his face told its own story. He stood there, silently, as Linda began her insincere ‘butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth’ speech, like she had done on countless occasions beforehand.
There was a difference this time compared to all of the other times that she had used this tactic in the past. Mr. Wilson’s eyes pierced her own as she stumbled over her fake apology, his face seemingly getting redder by the second. It was apparent that he wasn’t buying what she was selling. In fact, Linda didn’t even get to finish before an angry Mr. Wilson interrupted her.
Her prepared speech had worked many times in the past, but it wasn’t working today, and in an elevated voice, Mr. Wilson let her know exactly what he thought of her little prank and how his wife had reacted to it. Linda was so shocked by his response that she stood there with an open mouth. Nobody had ever spoken to her like that before.
If the lecture hadn’t been bad enough, it was what he said before he slammed the door shut that had stuck in her head for ten years. Just when it looked like Mr. Wilson was going to blow a gasket, he looked her dead in the eyes and barked the following, with his angry finger wagging in her direction, and he appeared to mean every word of it.
“If I had my way, I would put you across my knee, and I would give you a damn good spanking. You wouldn’t find your stupid little prank anywhere near as funny if you weren’t able to sit down for a week.”
That was it. He didn’t embellish it; he simply told her what it was that he thought she deserved, and then he slammed the door shut.
Perhaps if they had talked about it some afterwards, then she wouldn’t have felt the way that she did. But there was no opportunity to discuss it. He had said it, and he had meant it, and by slamming the door shut afterwards, it seemed to enhance how serious he was about it. There was no room for Linda to try and sweet-talk her way out of this one; she was left with his burning words ringing in her ears. He thought that she deserved a good old-fashioned spanking, and it’s not like she could argue the point. After all, his response had been pretty valid.
In the weeks that followed, Linda was still shocked, to the point that she would avoid the Wilsons as much as she could. When those occasions did occur in the future, the response of her neighbors was polite, naturally, but it was also curt. She was getting the cold shoulder treatment, perhaps no more than she deserved. It even got to the point where Linda admitted to herself that she would rather take a spanking than be ignored by the two of them. That was likely the reason that she still remembered the event clearly, even ten years later.
Nobody had ever spoken to her like that before.
Now that she was 25 years old, it was likely that Linda would never have a need for a fake rat anymore, but that didn’t prevent her from purchasing it as a memento. It’s not like she could take it into work with her and scare the other office workers, though it was always a consideration. Unfortunately, there were responsibilities to consider.
If she lost her job by playing a stupid prank, then she would also lose her apartment, so it wasn’t something that was possible. Linda had a good job, and she rented a small apartment above her landlord’s apartment, and the rent was super affordable. There was far too much to lose by playing a silly prank.
Chapter 2: The Prank
In Linda’s bedroom there was a small stand composed of three layers. It was on this stand where she kept her knick-knacks. Plush toys of a multitude of different characters, and even a few pop-up cards of K-pop stars. Those were collectors’ items that she loved to find online. Considering what was on that stand, the ugly-looking fake rat seemed totally out of place, but perhaps that was its charm. It stood out like a sore thumb, and it always brought a smile to Linda’s face.
The apartment itself was rather old, having once been the upstairs of the main house. Once her landlord’s children had left home, and his marriage disintegrated, her landlord, Richard Williams, had converted the upstairs portion of his house into an apartment, and likewise, he converted the basement into another apartment. Mr. Williams, himself, lived on the ground floor, a more than spacious area for a single man.
Even though he didn’t charge an arm and a leg for his rented living quarters, the money that he did take in afforded him the luxury of only needing to work part-time, with early retirement just a few years away. His upcoming pension was more than adequate, and when he started to draw from that, the added income from his tenants would afford him the luxury of travel whenever he felt like it.
Mr. Williams was blessed with considerate tenants, and during the times when repairs in the house were needed, he had the time to perform them by himself, thereby saving even more money. While not affluent, he certainly had little to worry about in terms of finances.
One weekend, Linda was engaged in a pleasant conversation with Mr. Williams. He was talking to her about the drainage in her kitchen sink, and he informed her that he needed to upgrade the main pipe due to city compliance, and he was looking to arrange a time, possibly on a weekend, when he could stop by and do the necessary repair work. Being that she was aware of his laid-back schedule, Linda even offered him a proposition. Rather than arrange a time when both of them were free, she informed him that he could stop by at any time when she was at work to do the repairs at his leisure.
Initially, it was a bit uncomfortable for Mr. Williams. He was very much of the opinion that the rented space was a private area, and he would never encroach on anyone’s privacy, but Linda assured him that it was no problem, only requesting that he let her know when he was going to do it so that she could have the kitchen prepared for him.
Richard Williams wasn’t one for dilly-dallying, so as soon as he accepted her offer, he got the ball rolling, and he suggested that he could complete the work on Tuesday morning, and that way it would give him some leeway should any issues occur. Linda was more than agreeable to this, as she already had a firm trust in her landlord. He had always seemed like a stand-up guy.
On Monday evening Linda began to prepare the kitchen. Not that there was much to prepare, as she always kept it spotless anyway, but she wanted to make sure that all dishes were cleared and put away, and she even went as far as removing everything from the sink and counter itself. When Tuesday morning arrived, all she had to worry about was washing her coffee cup. Everything was set for the repairs.
Linda got herself ready for work and then made her bed. A smile started to form on her face, similar to the mischievous grin that she always had whenever she was a naughty teenager a decade earlier. The fake rat was staring up at her from the small stand in the corner of her room. Her eyes looked upwards as her devilish thoughts took over. She hadn’t done this for years, but it would be so good to relive a memory.
Just before Linda left for work that day, she walked over to her stand and grabbed the fake rat, and then she accompanied it on the short journey toward the kitchen. Surely she was too old to pull a naughty prank on her landlord, wasn’t she?
Not Linda!
That naughty girl that lurked inside of Linda was always there, even if she didn’t get to let her loose very often these days. Today was different, though. A little harmless prank could never be turned down, and she even imagined the excitement she would feel, not knowing what Mr. Williams’s reaction would be. At least until she could bring it up during the week sometime.
With the precision of a stealth bomber, Linda carried her rodent friend into the kitchen and opened up the cupboard beneath the kitchen sink. She surveyed it for a few seconds, but she had already spotted the location that it was going to be placed almost immediately. She crouched down, leaned forward, and then buried the head of the rat out of sight, underneath the main pipe.
Should anyone happen to open that cupboard, perhaps like an unsuspecting landlord or someone, then the first thing that they would see would be the hindquarters of a fake rat, with its long tail featured prominently on the cupboard floor.
Linda stood up and closed the cupboard doors behind her, and then she leaned down to reopen them. It was perfect. The fake rat was likely to scare the bejeebus out of anyone who happened to be unfortunate enough to open that cupboard. It was purely coincidence that her landlord would be opening that very cupboard within the hour.
Linda Clarkson was such a naughty girl. She always had been.
Richard had heard the car pull out of the driveway that morning, and he was never one to put things off, so he had planned to fix the upstairs sink as quickly as he could. It was close to 10am when he gathered his equipment, and he headed up to Linda’s apartment.
Richard Williams always valued privacy, so his plan was to take care of the repairs that he needed to do and then leave the apartment at the earliest opportunity. He would then text Linda to let her know that everything was finished. Once he arrived in the apartment, he laid a cloth on the kitchen floor, and then he arranged the equipment that he would need for this project.
Before he began, there was the important initial task to perform. He had to shut the water off in the kitchen before he could start. As he would need to enter the cupboard itself in order to reach the main faucet, he dropped to his knees and then opened the cupboard doors under the sink.
Had Linda seen this event take place in person, she would have likely dropped to the floor laughing. Richard had opened the cupboard door, and he almost instantaneously shouted out, “Holy shit,” as he involuntarily flung his body backwards.
Attempting to peek around the open cupboard door, he stared intently at the motionless tail and back end of what he assumed was a rat. It hadn’t moved, though. Was it dead?
Despite his initial shock, he knew immediately that if the rat had been alive, then it would have scurried away at the first inkling of light. He looked around the kitchen and spotted a straw broom, and he quickly took hold of it.
Tentatively, Richard approached the open cupboard, and he peered inside once more. He studied it for a good ten seconds, altering his body for a better view of the still motionless rodent. He was even more tentative as he stuck the broom into the cupboard and poked at the rat, and after a couple of jabs at the tail, it still wasn’t moving. He was pretty shocked that a rat had made its way into his house because he had never encountered that before.
Richard hadn’t planned to open anything in the kitchen that day other than what he was there for, but in this instance he needed a bag of some type. After opening a couple of drawers, he finally found a small collection of plastic shopping bags, which were perfect for his task at hand.
Using the broom once more, he began to ease the rodent out from under the sink, but something didn’t seem right. It wasn’t moving like one would expect a dead rat to move. He had anticipated it bending in the middle, or the body having some give to it, but it did neither. The rodent he was sweeping remained plump, almost bouncy in a way, and there was no give to the body. When the full rat came into view, its face was also alert, almost comically so. Richard poked at it with the broom, and it bounced sideways, the facial expression remaining the same.
The initial shock had disappeared, and now he was curious. He still wasn’t certain that this was a toy, but with each passing second it was beginning to look more and more like one. Finally, he flipped the broom upside down and used the handle part to poke at the rat. It squeezed in the middle and then expanded back to its original shape. It had taken him a good few minutes to realize it, but he finally worked out that the rat he had encountered was nothing more than a toy.
Richard now had a dilemma, though. He could put it back once he was finished with his task, but if Linda was unaware of it being there, it was also likely to scare the life out of her. Likewise, he could hardly leave it lying around anywhere else for the same reasons. It wouldn’t matter where it was placed; it would be sure to frighten her.
Wisdom being the better part of valor, Richard bagged the fake rodent, and he then set about his task for the day. He would take it with him once he was finished with his project, and then later on that night he would pay Linda a visit. If it had been a toy that she had misplaced, then there would be no harm, no foul. And if she was unaware of it being there, then he would have likely saved her from an unexpected fright.
Richard Williams didn’t know that he had such a naughty tenant who was renting an apartment from him.
