Are Spanking Blogs Dying?

Are spanking blogs a dying art form?

If you are only here for the picture today, then here it is. If you pay attention there seems to be several people holding her down in what one would assume is a birthday spanking, or, paddling in this case.

Being that I am one of the old guard of spanking blogs, having had an active one for more than 18 years now, I have gone through the winds of change. At one point the spanking blog was very popular about 15 years ago or so, but they virtually all died off and were put out to pasture.

Now that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still popular spanking blogs out there, but nowadays mine isn’t one of them. The one thing that I have always taken pride in is my humbleness when it comes to telling the truth. And many times I have looked at the grandiose claims that some old blogs used to make in regards to their numbers.

The reason that I say they were grandiose is because of my own personal numbers. First and foremost, the numbers sounded unrealistic, sometimes upwards of 25 times more viewers than my blog used to get, even in the good days. But then I would look at the Internet website rankings, and the blogs with the claims would be below mine in the rankings. I believed the rankings to be true as well, because the blogs that I believed were good magnets for viewers, even though none of them exist anymore, they were indeed ranked higher than mine.

So where does this spanking blog currently stand? Well I am going to give you the honest number, because I am humble that way.

At one point in time, this blog would get upwards of 2,000 visitors a day, and on a bad day it would be as low as 600 visitors. The average number during this time would have been around 800-900 visitors a day. Where do I currently stand? This may shock you, but today my blog only gets between 130-160 visitors a day!!

It’s like 5 times less than what it once was.

There are a couple of factors that contribute to this, though. First of all there is that annoying security check that was forced onto my blog. While it is necessary, it doesn’t make it any less annoying. Why do I say that it is necessary though? It’s quite simple, every day my blog used to get a 100 or more spam comments that would be flagged, which is why I used to require an email address in order to leave a comment, otherwise the blog would have been flooded with spam. Since the security check was installed, I’m lucky if I even get one spam comment a day, the security check has all but eliminated them.

I’m also a smart guy though, because it made me confront a reality that I didn’t even know was there. When my numbers were high, were they actually a false number? Was most of my blog visitor count actually spam and bot visitors? Is it possible, in recent years anyway, that my blog numbers were severely inflated due to spam and bots? If I’m being really honest with you, I think that it was. Perhaps the reality for my blog is that the numbers fell in decline several years ago, long before I realized they were declining.

Before anyone questions it, this post has nothing to do with the death of this blog, in fact far from it. My blog was dying the last couple of years simply because I lost interest in the scene. There was one factor in particular that completely turned me off of the lifestyle, something that I found to be particularly reprehensible. Combined with my waning interest, it was a perfect combination of disaster for the longevity of this blog.

Now I’m back though, and my interest has been reignited by writing spanking stories that I am putting up on Amazon. Just so that you know, I am currently working on three stories, each of which are likely to be in the 25,000 word range, give or take.

In fact in one of the stories I have already written 5,000 words to, but I paused the story. It is a unique story set in 1955 of which I don’t want to give the details away just yet, but I am 5,000 words in and we aren’t even close to a spanking just yet. It made me pause because I’m thinking, is that what spankos really want? Let’s say a 25,000 word story, but the first spanking doesn’t happen until the story is already 10,000 words deep. There is likely to be three spankings in the entire story, but it is only a side piece to the main story. I’m just doubting how interested spankos would be in that.

Personally I love the idea of the story, it is a very unique one that I don’t recall reading anything similar before, so it will add a new dimension to spanking stories, and, ‘a new dimension’ could be considered quite a big hint as to the direction of my story.

So I have paused that one and I am now back to the story about Laura and her Mom. The framework of which has already been decided, I just need to get cracking on writing another 20,000 words.

Anyway, I’ve babbled on long enough, I don’t need to waste your time any further. My blog isn’t going anywhere, and if the truth be known, the stories I have been selling on Amazon have almost paid the entire annual fee for this blog for 2025 already, after only two weeks.

  1. Rich,

I am so glad to hear you are not shutting down. That said, I, likewise am saddened at the loss of so many wonderful blogs. Of course, you have piqued my interest in what soured you to the scene, but I have enough sense to know that is none of my business. Suffice it to say, I’m sorry that it happened and caused you that distress.

I have tried many formulas to make my readers happy. I often start my story with the spanking and then work back to it throughout the story. Another formula I use is to build up the scene, the time period, the smells, the weather, immerse my reader into a nostalgic feeling that wraps around the spanking scene. This takes more work and more writing talent than I possess, and I never really get there. What seems to work for most writers of spanking stories is they set up or justify the spanking. Then comes the actual spanking, and writers are all over the board here, some actually describing each and every spank to the broad brushstroke of “she was soundly spanked”. Finally, there is usually some conclusion, either acceptance that the spanking was deserved, a want to avoid another, and of course the threat of more to come.

The actual answer to your question is to fill in or flesh out your story, what do you want the reader to do? Do you want him or her to yearn to go on and find out what happens. It is a spanking story, so no surprises there, or do you want to present a picture, like one of your gems, and let them fill in the missing pieces? Do want them to understand how the woman or girl feels getting spanked or how she feels leading up to her reckoning? Do you want the reader to understand how the spanker felt or feels leading up to his day of destiny?? Do want the whole scene to unfold like a Norman Rockwell painting or do you want to be the boy in the closet describing only what he can imagine? Are you building a tension in the air that needs to explode or are you writing a serene song that floats down a flowing river.

Readers will enjoy what you enjoy writing, period! If you tailor your story to what people want, we will all be reading the very same story, never knowing there are so much better stories out there to be told.

I love a writer that goes by Joe Doe. His stories enthrall me and completely anger and frustrate me at the same time. He writes fantastic set ups, describes what could be and may happen and then leaves you there. Complete agony! Nevertheless, I will read anything her writes, knowing in advance it will only infuriate me. Moreover, he uses a complete economy of words, saying what he wishes in the fewest of words possible, yet telling it so well. That is a great writer. He does not write what I want, he makes me want what he writes and leaves me wanting more. Tough to do in the short story world, but he is one of the best!

Just as your story of the young couple getting spanked together left me wanting the chapters to go on. That’s the goal. Leave ’em wanting more!

From your videos and your stories posted, you are a storyteller and you like doing it! Just do what makes YOU happy. That shows through in your stories!

Man do I get preachy? Can you tell I have a degree in Education? Frustrated wannabe teacher? Probably! Encouraging friend? Definitely! Frustrated fellow writer? Without-a-doubt!

    The best man!

  2. Jim,

It’s all water under the bridge, I permanently closed that book and it will never be reopened. All it is now is an anecdote.

Out of curiosity, what pen name do you write under? Perhaps you have told me before and I simply forgot, but I don’t think that I knew you wrote spanking stories! The big story that I mentioned here is going to be much different from what I normally write, and it might take me several months to complete as I have other stories being developed at the same time. The inspiration for the story comes from elements used in the movies Pleasantville and Fried Green Tomatoes. It will be the first story that I have written where spanking plays a secondary role to the main frame of the story. There are still ideas for the story that I am working on as well, though. It all has to lead up to the ending, which, in my opinion, is going to be a really great reveal.

My main goal in the present is to get a handful of standard “Richard Windsor type” stories posted to build my profile. It will take a long time to get my books on a recommended shelf, so the quick I can get some material up the better it will be for the future. Even on my own books, virtually all of the recommendations on my book page are given to a website with a large collection of published material. I know how this works having done Youtube for so long, it takes a while to get noticed. Regardless of that, I’ll be the first to tell you that I am delighted with the results so far, it is a very promising start. At the end of February I will share the stats for the first few weeks which will give you some idea of what I am talking about.

The Laura and her Mom story is also going to be really good, I just don’t want to get too carried away and make it completely unbelievable, lol. I’ve already decided the first 4 chapters, and I’m pretty sure I know what I will put in the 5th chapter, but that is open right now just in case I think of something else. I’ve got a long way to go though as I only have 3,500 words written so far.

  3. Rich,

My earliest stories were written for CF publications. They were my earliest works under “B-Good.” I wrote them in trade and thought it a wonderful deal. My early stuff isn’t my best stuff, at least I hope not.

Since, I have written most under fatherjim or some derivation. I wrote many stories on now defunct yahoo groups and some google groups. Though it is not my personal preference, I write most on a RR google group. I liked the stories there and the writers and readers were kind, so I adopted that motif. I actually prefer reversal of fortune stories. Ones where the wrong person gets spanked, or the hero loses and has to watch his girl get spanked. That’s why I like the couple getting spanked so well it is doubly humiliating. I wrote a fun fan-fic of Scooby-Doo, and of Gunsmoke , where, of course, all the gals get spanked. So much of my work is lost to the internet forever unless someone was desperate enough to copy it all those years back. I know you have no interest in RR, probably because it often involves children, and on that note, I agree. Personally, in my stories the only place I usually put children is in the family room watching television or playing a video game. No other role is suitable.

RR can be fun. I wrote of an executive woman who loses her job and has to take whatever is available, which means a greasy burger joint that employs her 17yo daughter. Their boss is a skinny 18yo nerd who does not put up with tardy employees
and in his misguided zest to excel as a manager uses a paddle to make his point.

Mom runs afoul of her boss and when he later gets promoted, his replacement, her own 17yo daughter who now owns a paddle of her own.

    That’s my usual RR limit.

I also used to write strip-search stories because they led so easily into spanking stories, especially by butch female guards faced with naked supposed prostitutes and alleged female drunkards or shoplifters, but in my stories, they are all actually always innocent women getting stripped and spanked!! Those yahoo groups are long gone now along with all my stories.

So, no worry, no competition here! Just a longtime fan of all your work!

  4. Rich,

I know you are busy, so sorry for the addition, but I remembered a story I completed or extended for another writer, who I will not name here as he did NOT like where I took the story, bit in my defense, the story posted was an edited one that I never saw the edit, so I don’t really know what upset him. It was called Hickory Stick High. C. Lakewood posted it, edited it, and I got the credit/blame for the completed work. Perhaps you ran into that over your years. It was probably like back in 2008? LIke I said, not really my work as it was changed and made more sexual, but I did write about 3 or four more additions to the original. It was a great first story. HS principal brings back old-fashioned CP and enforces it. She, along with her assistant principal and his goons take over the campus and things begin to go well at the school. Problem is, the VP hates the principal and uses a lack of a hall pass to soundly spank her and later paddle her because of the strict language of her own rules. Soon, the VP is actually running things, and the school board wants to reward the principal for the turnaround in grades, truancy, and required disciplinary actions, with her fresh off a sound bare-bottom paddling across the VP’s knees! Fun story. The original writer was a genius. If you read it, the rest of it was mine, sort of!

Just type in Hickory Stick High and the reddit site that holds the story will come up. Please remember, the slipperings were not my idea, it was originally a hairbrush and it’s not exactly my ending either!

    Jim

p.s. Not now! Get back to your writing! lol!

  5. Jim,

I noticed that a couple of your stories are on Kindle Unlimited as part of some CF Publications compilations. As I subscribe to Kindle I will be sure to check them out.

    Rich

  6. I am also a frustrated writer.my stories were like father Jim in some defunct yahoo groups and in Chicago Spanking Review in the fiction section under jimc, but I do have to admit my stories were more spanking paragraphs not enough words to even make a chapter. Anyway I do appreciate your stories and it is easier to read in book format than the blog and I think some of your readers find your books because of the blog and they do want to thank you in some way for the 18 years that you have given us so much. Thanks again for all you have researched and posted. Enjoy your day.

  7. Jim,

I’ll be really honest, I’m actually glad all of my old stories vanished into the Internet black hole, lol. My stories from 25+ years ago were awful, barely even readable. I actually found some of them on an old CD just last week and they are pitiful. I might be able to rescue one or two, but other than that it is a hot plate of garbage 🙂
