I’m also curious about the ages of the people depicted! Looks more father/daughter than it does husband/wife.
Completely unrelated, well, the above thought actually triggered this addition. Last night I was studying the singer Bob Marley, while listening to his music, of course. There was a 46 year age gap between his parents. His father, a white Jamaican of English heritage, was 64 years old, while his mother was 18 years old.

Love that humour. Great find many thanks
Susan,
Thanks for stopping by. In my years of searching for vintage images I have found this theme several times, but I think that it was the cartoon itself that made me like this one a lot.

I don’t think a difference in the ages of the spanker and spankee was intended, but it does look like that. Possibly a mustache on a very young man makes him look older.
In any case, this is the first spanking I have seen from Captain Billy’s Whiz Bang, an early Fawcett humor publication going back to 1919. This was long before Humorama, Charlton’s Good Humor, the Wolf Books, or any of the other humor mags that started showing spankings in 1948 and really took off around 1955. Comics fans might recall that Fawcett’s later extremely successful Captain Marvel appeared in Whiz Comics and that his alter-ego was young Billy Batson, which is surely no coincidence.
I have found some rather suggestive material in Whiz Bang, but as I mentioned, this is the first spanking, so congratulations, Richard! (Notice the spankee’s “flapper” appearance, suggesting this drawing is from the 20s or early 30s).
Web-Ed,
Thanks for providing the additional information to go along with this post. Obviously I defer to your expert knowledge on such a matter, and I am glad that I was able to bring something new to your attention. It would have been nice to find the name of the artist, but to be really honest with you I don’t even remember where I found the image. It was an image in my eBay folder so I likely found it on eBay. Mind you, it had been sat in my archive for three years already.
One of the reasons that I like scouring newspaper archives is that you can occasionally find a cartoon spanking in a regional newspaper that was drawn by a local artist. It is very rare that it happens, but they do exist.
