Today there will be some book talk concerning my first week of selling stories on Amazon. It might interest some of you to hear my thoughts. However, if you are only here for the spanking image, I will post that first so that you don’t have to wade through my mindless blather. Should you want to read about my experience so far in relation to the books, then continue below the image.
If they were to put a number on it, I wonder just how many spankings were given on the front stoop of a house. I have seen countless images like this one from the 40s and 50s.
At the moment I am currently writing my 3rd book for Kindle. To give people value for money I am aiming for 22,000 to 25,000 words. The second book was only 16,000 words, but my reason for that is quite simply that I wanted to have a second book up quickly to build an audience.
When you take into account that I am brand new at this, and I literally have no clout on Kindle, I’m quite shocked to see that I pulled in almost $40 in the first week. That is without either of my books showing up as a recommendation due to how new they are, and indeed how new I am. It makes the mind boggle how much people are making when they have a dozen or so books for sale, or even upwards of a hundred books. If little old me is pulling in $20 per book, per week, then the folks whose books are always recommended must be raking it in. It makes sense that in order to get on the recommended shelf, it would likely take a year or more to become established.
There was a learning curve that I encountered during the first week. The initial mistake that I made was with my first book was that I didn’t include ‘Spanking’ in the title anywhere. That was a big mistake to make because the book is buried deep in the search results for ‘spanking’. Conversely, and I know it rotates where newer books get the initial push, but if you search for ‘spanking’ in Kindle Unlimited, my second book shows up as the second book on the first page.
The other issue that I had was the book covers. My initial covers looked awful on Kindle, so I had to redo them in a darker color with white font. They don’t look like professional book covers, but that is by design. This goes back to what I learned on Youtube. I’m looking to build my brand, so my initial covers, at least, will follow the same design. The only difference will be the image that I use.
This is what the book covers look like now.

My hope is to finish my 3rd eBook by the end of the week. I’m currently at 13,500 words, so I need at least another 8,500 at a minimum. The minimum of 22,000 words is my own self-imposed target. The two biggest stories that I previously wrote on this site were over 6,000 words each, and that is what I am attempting per story in the new book.
One of the stories is completed already. It is the tale of a headmistress at an exclusive private school reminiscing to a younger student counselor about her time in boarding school. Her tales of getting the slipper (plimsoll) from Matron Intrigues the younger woman and she wants to give it a try. The other three stories still need some work, but each is about halfway finished already.
The premise of the book is being spanked for the first time away from home, and I have written the initial spanking in each story so far. The only issue that I have is that I want to include a follow up spanking that is increased in severity, but it is a bit of a stumbling block because I don’t want all three stories to repeat themselves.
All of the stories bar one are going to be new stories, but even the story that isn’t new will be increased from 2,000 to 6,000 words.

Rich,
Your stoop pic is great! She is clearly embarrassed and not making it easy for him. The real stuff!
As to your book, I wish you the best. The third sounds great! You can never go wrong when there is a headmistress involved. lol! The intricacies of self-promotion and book covers alone would stop me cold. I am really interested to see this succeed for you. You work so hard for our interest; you deserve a great payback!
Jim
Jim,
I don’t really have a problem with the self promotion. I’ve always been quick to promote others, so why not promote myself as well? At this stage, because of how new I am to the genre, self marketing is the only promotion I am going to get. Perhaps a year from now my stories will start to show up as recommendations on Kindle. However, the books that are currently recommended on Kindle deserve to be, they have earned their stripes, so to speak. It is going to take a while for non blog readers to even discover my stories, which is ironic because next book is actually going to be called ‘Discovering Spanking’ 🙂
Yesterday I had hoped to dig deep into writing, but unfortunately the noise from the apartment above me went on for hours, so it broke my concentration and I barely added 1,500 words. Today I will look at what I have and see if I want to write a new story or extend what I currently have with extra chapters.
