Barely Resisting

A lot of good news today guys. Yesterday I renewed the website for another year, which will mean that on December 24th, 2026, I will celebrate my 20th blog anniversary.

Even better news is that I was able to claim a portion of my website fees from last year as a tax break. As this website is my main promotional tool for my eBooks, it is now a business expense. Yesterday I filed my taxes and my profession is officially a self-employed ‘Author.’

Is there additional good news? Indeed there is. It is quite likely that my 13th eBook will be released on Thursday. I can’t guarantee it yet, a lot will depend upon today, but I feel confident that I can have it ready by Thursday. I will share more tomorrow.

Now then, would you guys agree that this lady is only making a half-hearted attempt to prevent her spanking?

  1. Yes,but it does look like both are enjoying her otk experience. Great find. I am glad you were able to get a tax break for being an Author, but I thought you might get one as an artist as well. Have you had inquiries about selling any of your art as I am sure there might be some popular ones that might fetch a penny or two(although I hope that people will pay you rather than just say it is their work) thanks for sharing and have a great day.

  2. Jim,

It wasn’t really much of a break, but every little helps. Regardless of how little I earned, I also learned a valuable lesson. As a self-employed author, I had to pay 15.3% in Social Security/Medicaid fees for the amount I earned last year. My earnings weren’t enough to owe taxes, but every dollar I earned was subjected to the 15.3% self employment fee.

As for DeviantArt, I don’t plan on monetizing anything, I am happy to create for the benefit of the community. I would like to think that the people who raid DeviantArt for content for their blogs will leave my website address on the images. Basically I will soon become a paid member of DeviantArt as a means to promote my books. It won’t change my daily uploads, but I will be able to ‘Boost’ images that are linked to my eBooks. It will be a business charge so I can claim it on next years tax filing. 🙂
