Over on DeviantArt this week I had the misfortune of someone taking one of my creations and then reposting it on the same platform. Now, my belief is that within a week, DeviantArt’s internal copyright protection will delete that image, and likely the account associated with it.
The funny thing is, they actually left my website address on the image I created, but they didn’t acknowledge that they were taking credit for my work. It’s one thing to take my creations and re-post them on blogs and social media, but it’s another thing entirely to re-post them on the very site that you snaffled them from.
So, because that happened, I am going to share the same image with you guys so that I can stake my claim on my own work.
There was also a veiled insult lobbed in my direction this week by another spanking site concerning an image I recently discovered. It pissed me off a bit because I have been the source of a vast amount of rare finds over the last 20 years, so it seemed a bit unnecessary to trample on me to puff themselves up.
Right, back to writing. I would like to say that nobody would steal my story ideas, but that isn’t true either. I once shared a free story, and many years later I found out that someone had written a follow-up story to my original. 🙂 You can’t win for losing.

I have a huge weakness, or lack of understanding when it comes to protocol and technology as it pertains to the internet. This is why I have never posted much nor shared my stories beyond a few google groups. I would have no idea what is right or wrong. So maybe that other person was just ignorant to what is right or wrong. As for putting you down for posting old pics, let me at em, those are fighting words and I’m in your corner, numero uno! Anyone who attacks you must either be blind, or severely misled!
Your work on DeviantArts has been nothing short of amazing. I don’t blame people for reposting your work,but give you your credit for gosh sakes. Even I know that!
Help me out here concerning that site. People have their own sites, there are usually galleries and favorites. Now if all I did was post favorites, does it automatically post where the pic was from? This would be all other people’s works. NOT mine. IN galleries, I thought that was to be ORIGINAL content, or even borrowed content changed by the words posted on that pic, like to give how they saw the scene. or somehow modified. Yet, even then, the original work should be credited and its’ source. Is this correct? It seems some post favorites in galleries. Am I imagining this?

On DeviantArt the rule is pretty clear, do not post the work of other artists/creators. They take a dim view of that. If someone owns a blog, or any other form of social media then I can understand them posting the work of other people. I would hope that they would leave the watermark source on the image so that the people they are showing the image to can find more work from the creator of the art. As for the veiled insult, I am over it. It just struck me as completely unnecessary, especially because reposting my finds has increased the profile of the person sharing my discoveries, and has done for many years.
On DeviantArt, I think that I am understanding your question correctly. Take my own profile for example. You can select my “Galleries” and click through the different folders that I have. Likewise, you will see a tab for “Favorites.” In my favorites tab, you will see the work of many artists in various folders that I created. All of that content belongs to the original artist; I am simply showcasing it as material that I like to see. If you click on any image in my favorites, the hit registers automatically on the original artists profile.
Artists/creators want people to “Favorite” their images, because it means that other people can see their work on another page if they missed it on the creator’s page. You can create as many favorite folders as you want, and you can add other people’s work to them at will by selecting the “Favorite” tab on the image itself. What you are essentially doing is promoting the work of the original artist, and if anyone clicks on an image, then it reflects on the original author’s profile.
Taking someone else’s work, on the same site that it was posted no less, is taking credit for the creator’s work, and is taking views away from the person who deserves them.

Quite honestly I haven’t even posted about it for years; I gave up hope that common courtesy existed. In this instance, though, they are reposting my creations on the very same site that I am. I couldn’t possibly imagine doing that to someone. At least they left my website address on the image, so that is a positive. Once they did that, viewers could follow the link to my site to check out the other work I have done and contributed to the community.
Because of my eBooks I am running a small business, so in a small way I am getting free publicity from the reposting. There was a user on spankingtube who was deliberately cropping my website address out of the images and then posting them as his own, but again, I didn’t go crazy over it.
It is always going to happen, and perhaps once a year I will get a bit bent out of shape over the practice, but I know that I can’t do anything about it… except whine. LOL. 🙂
